I love how these spaces summon the sleepy practice of observance. Asking us to look and behold before we speak, add or even think. Finding ourselves enamored, confused or critical in the face of a soundless (though not speechless) presentation, any of which feelings are perfectly appropriate.
This Christmas may we take a moment to consider the art of the incarnation in an observance rather than the overactive participation. To sit and behold the wonder rather than obsess over enhancing it. To silent night.
And to softly kiss the cheek of grace in gratitude and if but for a moment, observe and nothing more.
